PMA!

What is PMA?

The Pilates Method Alliance (PMA) is the not-for-profit professional association dedicated to the Pilates field.

Since its inception in 2001, Pilates teachers from around the world have worked together to create a unified community, to share knowledge and information, and most importantly, to establish the practice of teaching Pilates as a profession.

The PMA produces live events such as our Annual Meeting and Pilates Educators Summit. We coordinate a global Pilates-awareness event called Pilates Day and support other profile-raising initiatives such as Heroes in Motion®, Pilates 4 Youth, and Pilates is Health.

The PMA also support a Research Committee as an integral part of the evolution and practice of the Pilates method, knowing that sound research and evidence-based practice is necessary to ensure that Pilates is effective, efficient, and safe.

PMA’s Mission

To advance Pilates as a profession and to promote and perpetuate the teachings of Joseph H. and Clara Pilates.

To serve as a unifying body for all lineages and schools of Pilates

To foster community, integrity, and respect within the Pilates industry

To promote the benefits of Pilates to the public and allied professionals

Why is PMA so important?

PMA is a platform for all instructors around the world to come together and share knowledge. At PMA we support new and upcoming research and are forever learners! This is so important to keep furthering the education of the instructors and therefore help all of you learn and grow with the spreading of knowledge. PMA also puts on live conferences every year which not only is a great place to learn but its also a fantastic place to meet and connect with new teachers or teachers that we may only know online!

What did I take at PMA?

This year I only attended 2 out of the 5 days at PMA but still got so much out of it! Here is a list of classes and workshops I took and I’m so excited to get to share what I learned in the studio during your upcoming classes!

  • Magic circle class with Victoria Torrie-Capan

  • Marketing with Shawn Healey

  • Pilates for professional athletes with Christine Romani Ruby

  • Discussion group - What works and What doesn't

  • Tactile cueing with Cari RiisStemmler

  • Mobility Mat class with Nagi Takahashi

all of these classes and people are amazing and I loved learning from them! I really feel inspired and look forward to continuing to learn from everyone I can!
